Statement on Premises

As you are probably aware there is a planning application submitted for much of the land around Newmarket Square including our own Co-Op. The CB gave an update on the situation at the OGM earlier this month but we appreciate that many people were away on holidays so for those of you who could not make it on the night this is a brief summary of the situation.

The local authority are due to make a decision shortly but can also ask for additional information which could postpone a decision longer- possibly as late as towards the end of this year. Following that decision there could well be an appeal which may have to be considered which could push the final grant of permission out until early next year. After that the developers will need to take stock of the situation and we all should be in a more definite position next year.

We have been kept informed of progress by the landlord and we are conscious that the development has potential for a co-operative in it. We are currently exploring possibilities with the landlord along with also searching for alternative premises.

The current license agreement with the landlord expires at the end of October and we are seeking a new license agreement beyond that date.

We will keep you updated on a regular basis of what we are doing and will be inviting you to attend more meetings on the matter.

Talkin' Co-op: 6pm, Wednesday, 9 August 2017

The Co-ordinating Body will be hosting a 'Talkin' Co-op' this Wednesday, 9 August, from 6 - 8 pm, so members can discuss the motions featuring in the upcoming Ordinary General Meeting informally. Details of motions on the events page. 

Ordinary General Meeting (OGM): 6.30pm, Wednesday, 16 August 2017

The General Meeting is the primary decision-making forum of the Co-op, were members can participate in determining the direction of our organisation. It is crucial for members to attend as participation is the lifeblood of any Co-operative, and our Co-op would be nothing without an active membership. George's bread always available at the co-op! June 2017

George’s Bread is still available on Saturdays at the Dublin Food Co-op.
The following selection of breads are available :
1. Spelt brown yeast    
2. Spelt white yeast 
3. Light rye sourdough 
4. Dark rye sourdough
5. Polish rye*
6. Healthy multi-seed bread white yeast
6. Tomato with onion seed
7. Focaccia.
All competitively priced at €3.00, except * Polish Rye at €4.00.
A number of pastries and scones are also available:
Almond criossant
Plain croissant
Pain au chocolate 
Blueberry wholemeal scones.
Booking your order
It is advisable to pre-book your bread for collection on Saturday, if you intend coming to the Co-op later than 1pm.
To avoid disappointment text John on 086-601-7734 up to 10am on Saturday to reserve bread for collection later in the day up to 5pm.
If you're looking for  5 (or more) loaves or pastries, please let him know by 5pm on Thursday so he can adjust the order.
George's bread is competitively priced and delivered fresh each morning from his bakery in Slane.

CB/members meeting of January the 14th: Thank you to all who attended. As agreed, here is a summary of the situation:

-we managed to extend our lease for one year but the rent has doubled from last year 

-the current building is due for redevelopment in the coming year 2018

conclusion: DFC will have to move by end 2017 or early 2018.

We are seeking feedback from members with regard to core services provided by the Co-op to help us shape our plans for future premises. Knowing which services are most important to you will help us decide what kind of premises we need to ensure these services are being delivered.

You can e-mail the CB directly with your proposals for premises (size, location, parking, outdoor space...) and activities.

We are also offering a survey both online (click here) and in hard copy available at the Co-op.

From there, after analysing the survey and proposals, the CB will organise a talking co-op in mid-late February with categories of proposals for discussion.

Do you have Communications and PR experience? If so, we need your help. The Communications Group is currently developing a communications strategy for the Coop and we could use someone with industry experience to lead us through the process. If you have the following skills and experience and would like to help us on this project, please contact us.
- A degree in communications, PR, Marketing, or Journalism
- Experience in the communications field (preferably non-profit)
- Experience developing communication/PR strategies and marketing plans
- Knowledge and experience with all communication channels (print, radio, social media, etc.)

Amatsu is back at the Co-op thanks to Svetlana who will now offer booking or dro-on sessions on Saturdays.

As some of you will have already noticed, we are phasing out Ecover products from our shelves. This is due to their use of genetically-modified organisms in their production processes. The policy of the co-operative on GMOs is very clear. For further information please click on the following link.

We are very disappointed and saddened that things have come to this as Ecover have been a leading light in environmental products for so many years. We look forward to the day when we can be satisfied that they once again meet our standards.
We are however pleased to welcome a new supplier, Sonett. They produce cleaning products to the highest ethical standards and are organic as well. We are also able to deal directly with them rather than through wholesalers. We hope that you will enjoy their products and we look forward to a long and mutually-beneficial relationship. We are also making some minor changes to the layout of the core area as our range of goods changes. If you can't find something in its usual place, feel free to ask a member of staff.
These changes are part of our efforts to ensure that the co-operative delivers a great shopping experience to you, the members.

Coeliac Society’s 2014 Food List

The Coeliac Society’s 2014 Food List is hot off the presses. Known to coeliacs as the ‘bible’ - certainly when it comes to food - this 300 page book has everything from baby food to alcohol, that is gluten-free. Coeliacs must stick to a gluten-free diet for life, with no other medication to keep them healthy and avoid complications by contamination with gluten. The Food List contains only products that are guaranteed gluten-free and is an essential guide to keeping abreast of changes to labelling legislation and new products on the market. The Society is celebrating the launch of their 2014 edition with some competitions featuring in the RTÉ Guide, the Star Saturday magazine and some other media.
